Investigator’s comments arouse new interest in actress Natalie Wood’s confusing drowning about 3 decades ago. Speaking to 48 Hours of CBS News, investigators say that actor Robert Wagner, Natalie Wood’s then-husband can be a person involved when they look into the incidents and context of her doubtful death caused by drowning.
In an interview with 48 Hours correspondent Erin Moriarty, Lieutenant John Corina says, “As we’ve investigated the case over the last six years, I think he’s more of a person of interest now”. He further stated that “I mean we know now that he was the last person to be with Natalie before she disappeared.”
Natalie Wood, the famous American actress of her time, who was known for her screen roles in blockbuster films including; Miracle on 34th Street, Rebel Without a Cause and Splendor in the Grass. She became a famed Hollywood actress as a young adult. She worked in films as a child and got nominated for three Academy awards before she was 25 years old.
Natalie Wood’s death was a very suspicious incident. In 1981, Natalie Wood was out-sailing actor Robert Wagner, her Oscar-winning young co-star Cristopher Walken and their captain Dennis Davern when she mysteriously disappeared from the yacht. Natalie’s death was quickly ruled an accidental drowning, but rumors and allegations of foul play remained. Feuding great part by the boat’s captain Dennis Davern. Dennis Davern publicly stated that he lied to the police in the initial investigation. He claimed that Wagner was responsible for Natalie’s death. He says there was a terrible fight between Natalie and Wagner outside on the back of the boat that night. After a 30-year break in 2011, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department decided to take a second look and re-opened the case.
After a nine-month investigation from the re-opening of the case, Los Angeles County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran made changes to Wood’s death certificate and changed the cause of her death from accidental drowning to “drowning and other undetermined factors.”
Tsk-tsk. There is a long list of rumors of Natalie’s death. The changed document of Natalie’s death included a statement that the factors of how Natalie ended up are not clear and still confusing. The manner of death was changed to undetermined.
When asked Ralph Hernandez, one of the investigators, if they have been able to get even more evidence, he said, “We have. We believe that there was a lot more to it than what has been told.” Being asked why the bruises on Natalie’s body were of interest to you, Hernandez replied, “Because she looked like the victim of an assault.”
Investigators still don’t know how Natalie would have got into the water. But Corina has his suspicions. He adds, “I think it is suspicious enough to make us think that something happened. I don’t think she got in the water herself. I don’t think she fell in the water.”
Woohoo. Natalie’s death is still full of questions and confusions. The investigation team is still not sure about how she ended up in the water. But, Robert Wagner coming forward to be the person of interest, brings a little twist into this murder case that has been considered a drowning until now.
The big question is, what is the actual reason behind Natalie’s death? And if it is a murder, is it Robert Wagner, his husband, responsible for her murder. These questions still remain…
